The exhibit opens with a public reception on Thursday, February 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ArtsWork Gallery in the Tri-Main Center, located at 2495 Main Street in Buffalo, N.Y.
Galloway is a Western New York artist who attends People Inc.'s ArtsWork program, which offers people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities the opportunity to participate in several artforms. Galloway primarily works in acrylic paint on canvas, canvas panel and paper.
“Colleen’s paintings feature balanced compositions of interlocking, irregular forms in a distinct palette of deep jewel tones,” said Dana Ranke, director of ArtsWork. “Her approach is thoughtful and methodical, with careful attention given to each piece she creates.”
ArtsWork is a program integrated across all People Inc. day programs and has provided hundreds of participants with opportunities for creative expression. The program offers instruction in painting and drawing, as well as pottery, photography, music therapy, creative writing, theater production, dance, horticulture and more. Engagement in the creative arts supports self-expression and self-determination for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities while fostering meaningful social connections.
The exhibit will be on view through April 30. The ArtsWork Gallery is open to the public by appointment. To schedule a visit, call 716-713-5665 or 716-344-0814, or email artsworksubmissions@people-inc.org.
