People Inc. ArtsWork Gallery Pairs Two Accomplished Artists in New Exhibition
Oct 19, 2026
People Inc.'s ArtsWork Gallery will present "Inside the Square: Recent Work by Dan Carey & Langston Gardner," a new exhibition featuring paintings by People Inc. ArtsWork artists Dan Carey and Langston Gardner.
The exhibit opens with two free public receptions at the ArtsWork Gallery in Suite 253 of the Tri-Main Center, 2495 Main St., Buffalo. An evening reception will be held on Friday, October 23, from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by a daytime reception on Wednesday, October 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Known for their distinct artistic styles, Carey and Gardner were paired for this exhibition because of their shared use of square forms and complementary color palettes. Curated by People Inc. Teaching Artist Todd Lesmeister, the exhibit highlights how each artist incorporates the square into their work in unique ways.
"An abstract painter and a portrait artist come together in a dynamic pairing of expression, color and mutual affinity for the square," said Lesmeister.
ArtsWork at People Inc. provides people with intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities for creative expression through painting, drawing, pottery, photography, music therapy, creative writing, theater, dance, horticulture and more. Participation in the arts supports self-expression, self-determination and meaningful social connections.
The exhibition brings together two longtime ArtsWork artists with extensive exhibit histories, creating a visual conversation between their different styles and approaches. Carey's paintings draw inspiration from vintage television programs, networks and media personalities. Gardner's recent work explores layered symbols and abstract forms, using squares as both inspiration and subject matter.
The exhibit will be on view from October 23 through December 1. The ArtsWork Gallery is open by appointment. To schedule a visit, email artsworkscheduler@people-inc.org.
