With the last of its eight program rooms finally open, People Inc.'s day program building on Indian Church Road in South Buffalo was the site of a gala dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 17. A long list of dignitaries with an interest in People Inc.'s mission were in attendance, as were many of the 50 individuals served by the location and most of its 20 staff members.

The dedication ceremonies included U.S. Congressman Brian Higgins, New York State Assemblymember Mark J. F. Schroeder and County Legislator Tim Kennedy. Representatives of People Inc. included President and CEO James M. Boles, COO Rhonda Frederick and Public Affairs director Kevin Horrigan.

"Most of the individuals who come here are medically frail," said Lisa Guglielmi, administrator of the location. "We started here in September but just completed our transition. So it's a time to celebrate."

The building, a former retail space, was converted to serve the needs of South Buffalo and Southtowns individuals. Its redesign and reuse impressed the large number of attendees. "We took a building that sat vacant for several years on Seneca Street and invested $500,000 into it," said People Inc President and CEO, James M. Boles.

Each of the elected officials pointed out the special relationship between People Inc. and the South Buffalo community.

Said County Legislator Tim Kennedy, "People Inc. took a blighted neighborhood building and turned into something spectacular," and Congressman Brian Higgins called it "the latest installment of the commitment of People Inc. to the disabled."

People Inc COO, Rhonda Frederick pointed out the new location was "our final move from another site and we're thrilled to add this to our programs in South Buffalo."

Said Assemblymember Mark J.F. Schroeder, "We're committed to this neighborhood, like you are."

Concluded Kevin Horrigan, Director of Public Affairs for People Inc., "We worked with Bill Paladino and Ellicott Development for a couple of years on this project. This new site adds to our commitment to South Buffalo."

People Inc. also operates Seneca Cazenovia Apartments, a People Inc. Senior Living Community, at the corner of Seneca and Cazenovia.
