Day Habilitation Programs Have Immediate Openings – Inquire Today
With multiple site-based Day Habilitation (Hab) Programs, Supplemental Day Hab and Day Hab Without Walls (DHWW) sites throughout the region, People Inc. is sure to have a program to fit each person’s needs and interests. Every program is unique and across the board, you will find caring, dedicated, trained and experienced staff. Our programs are designed to promote each person in their journey to reaching their full potential. A strong focus is placed on community integration, health, wellness and volunteering, so all are able to participate and become active members in their communities. All Day Habilitation Programs operate Monday through Friday. Arrival/dismissal times, transportation and clinical supports may vary by location. Geographic preferences and availability are reviewed at time of admission.

Respite Services Available in WNY and Rochester
For many families, respite is crucial to caring for a loved one with a developmental disability. People Inc. offers a variety of Respite Services to suit personal needs. There are immediate openings in several of our Respite Programs across Western New York and the Greater Rochester region. Each program offers participants an opportunity for personal growth, while providing a break to family members and caregivers. Ages served, hours and transportation differ between programs.
In-home Respite provides support for participants in the comfort of their own home. This person-centered approach may be provided to more than one person, including siblings who have developmental disabilities.
During time away from home, People Inc. also offers Hourly After-School/Afternoon Respite, allowing enrollees to participate in person-centered recreational activities, homework help and arts/crafts. People Inc. staff are specifically trained to educate participants through supporting peer socialization and positive interactions.
Western New York: There are Respite openings in Amherst, Buffalo, Depew, East Aurora, Hamburg, Lockport and Tonawanda. Info/To make a referral: admissionsbuffalo@people-inc.org or call 716.880.3700.
Greater Rochester Region: There are openings in an After-School Program serving people ages 13-21 and the In-home Respite Program has openings for people of all ages. An After School Program for children younger than 13 with high behavioral needs does not have openings at this time; however, a wait list is maintained. Vocational and Supported Employment Opportunities in WNY and Rochester
People Inc. is a longtime advocate for vocational training and employment opportunities for people with varying needs and abilities. For decades, we have helped people train, prepare for, secure and maintain competitive employment. Here is the latest news to help serve the people you assist:
  • Supported Employment Medicaid Program (SEMP): Serving a large spectrum of people with disabilities who live throughout Erie and Niagara Counties, the program helps to promote individualized job interests. The Supported Employment Program continues to utilize a person-centered placement model, which provides assessment of employment interest and choice, job development, job training, stabilization and long-term follow along. All placements are community-based in an integrated setting. Participants are employees of their place of employment and are paid the prevailing wage for their work.   • NEW Service Area: People Inc. is happy to announce that we are now offering Supported Employment Services in Rochester, NY. We are currently accepting referrals for people who are in need of supported employment through OPWDD and ACCES-VR. People Inc. is the largest provider of OPWDD services in Western New York.   • Community Pre-Voc: People enrolled in this program will learn and practice vocational skills in an integrated contract manufacturing environment. These services are intended to equip people with the tools necessary for transition to a less restrictive employment setting. Agency staff support people in making person-centered plans as they explore future services and supports. People Inc. Contract Manufacturing offers solutions to area businesses on-site at our Lincoln Street location in Depew, NY, as well as off-site at community businesses. Community Habilitation Accepting Participants
There are immediate Community Habilitation openings for people who need assistance to live
an independent life throughout Western New York, including Niagara County. Community
Habilitation services have valued outcomes that are skills-based and include life-enriching activities.
Community Habilitation is a service that provides support for people to learn skills to improve

Personal Development Mentoring Now Accepting Participants
To help build natural supports, the People Inc. Personal Development Mentoring Program
helps participants with developmental disabilities
to make strong community connections and
discover their own unique talents. Openings are currently available to assist participants to work
one-on-one with a mentor to break down large

Community Behavioral Health Available
With openings in Western New York, the People Inc. Community Behavioral Health Department has a group of specialized services designed to help families and people with disabilities live and function in healthy ways. The unique, hands-on, in-home support program works with families of children and adults with developmental disabilities who exhibit maladaptive behaviors.

Family Reimbursement Funds
The Family Reimbursement Program is intended to assist the family caring for their loved one with a developmental disability. Funds currently remain for those who live in Monroe County. The funds are designated to assist with increased expenses directly related to the disability and thereby enhance family stability and preserve family unity. The goods and services provided should have a significant, definable, positive impact on the person/family directly related to health, safety, emotional well-being and normalization of life, as well as accessibility to needed services and the personal growth and development of the participant.

Affordable Housing Available
People Inc. offers affordable housing in various locations across Western New York. We encourage you to share these openings with people you serve, families and colleagues who may be interested:
  • Academy Place Senior Apartments, located at 1 School Street, Gowanda, NY, and managed by People Inc., are accepting applications for a two-bedroom apartment. These apartments are ideal for older adults in the Southern Tier who are in need of affordable housing. The complex provides HUD Section 202 Affordable Housing and New York State Tax Credit apartments. Info/Apartment application: Email Seniorliving@people-inc.org or call 716.817.9090.

  • People Inc. Senior Living accepts apartment applications year-round for its locations throughout Western New York, including Amherst, Blasdell, Grand Island, Lackawanna, Lockport, South Buffalo, Springville and Wheatfield. The affordable apartments are for independent older adults age 62 and up who meet the federally-mandated household income guidelines.   • People Inc. Linwood Lafayette Senior Apartments, located at 637 Linwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY, are accepting applications from people who are 55 or older and meet federally-mandated household income guidelines. Info/Apartment application: Email housing@people-inc.org or call 716.881.6600.
Applications Now Being Accepted for AmeriCorps ETHOS Program
The People Inc. AmeriCorps ETHOS Program introduces people to a career in human services, while providing them valuable job skills, a living allowance of $6,650 paid over a 900-hour service term, student loan deferment, an education award of $3,047.50 toward college and other benefits during their year of service. If an AmeriCorps member is at least 55 years of age at the start of their service, they can transfer the education award to their children, step-children, foster children, grandchildren or step-grandchildren. Those who have served in the U.S. Military (including the Guard and Reserve), their families and those with a disability are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. As the application process takes a few months, applicants are encouraged to apply NOW for the 2020 service year. Visit my.americorps.gov to review position descriptions, eligibility and apply. Check out New Website for Museum of disABILITY History
The Museum of disABILITY History, a project of People Inc., recently launched its new website and online store with a fresh new look! The Museum of disABILITY History is dedicated to the collection, preservation and display of artifacts relating to the history of people with disabilities. The only museum of its kind in the U.S., the Museum of disABILITY History offers educational exhibits, programs, publications and activities to create awareness and a platform for dialogue and discovery. The new website includes educational resources, exhibit information, a virtual tour and the latest information about its news and events!
