People Inc. Celebrates New York State’s first-ever Disability History Week
People Inc. hosts several events to celebrate historic Disability History Week
Buffalo, NY, October 12, 2007: Over the next week, People Inc. and the Museum of disABILITY History, a project of People Inc., will host several events to celebrate New York State’s Disability History Week.
Working with New York State Assemblymember Mark Schroeder of Buffalo, representatives from People Inc. and its Museum of disABILITY History were instrumental in establishing the third week in October (October 15-19) as the first-ever “Disability History Week” in New York State. The resolution officially designating “Disability History Week” was passed by the New York State Legislature in June 2007 and encourages schools to provide instruction to their students regarding disability history during the third week of October.

People Inc.’s Kids on the Block will perform at John A. Sciole Elementary School. Kids on the Block is an educational program that uses puppetry to teach kids about people with disabilities.

Disability History curriculum distributed to area schools
In conjunction with New York State´s Disability History Week, the Museum of disABILITY History has developed a school curriculum focusing on disability history. This project was funded by a grant from the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation, and by People Inc. and the Museum of disABILITY History.
