Grant Awarded to Suburban Adult Services

Description: The John R. Oishei Foundation has awarded a $420,000 grant to Suburban Adult Services, Inc.~SASi and People Inc. for a human service training and placement program. The focus of this project is to provide a five-week comprehensive training program to individuals in our community who are entering the workforce, low income, unemployed or under employed for positions in the local direct care, human service job market.
Personal and direct care positions comprise the fastest growing employment field in Western New York. This growth has generated a tremendous need among local human service agencies for qualified, well trained staff to fill these vacancies. The goal of this initiative is to fill the demand by utilizing those individuals most in need of training, placement and support.
Each participant in the training program will receive comprehensive instruction covering direct care job skills, employment readiness, on-the-job training, job shadowing and vocational skill development. Placement assistance and vocational case management will also be provided to encourage successful, long-term employment.

The John R. Oishei Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for Buffalo area residents by supporting education, healthcare, scientific research and the cultural, social, civic and other charitable needs of the community. The Foundation was established in 1940 by John R. Oishei, founder of Trico Products Corporation. “The directors (of the Foundation) were impressed with the design of this program and the numbers of agencies that will benefit” remarked Thomas Baker, President, Oishei Foundation. Other involved agencies include Aspire, Autistic Services, Baker Victory and Community Services.
