People Inc.’s Kids on the Block Seeks Volunteer Puppeteers
Program promotes awareness, education, and acceptance of individuals with disabilities
BUFFALO, N.Y., September 8, 2006: If you’re enthusiastic, enjoy working with kids, and think that educating others about people with disabilities is an important task, than you may be qualified to be a puppeteer. People Inc.’ Kids on the Block Puppet Troupe program is currently seeking volunteer puppeteers. Kids on the Block is an internationally acclaimed program that educates children about acceptance of differences through the use of puppet theater. Puppeteers travel to elementary schools, colleges/universities, and other local venues across Western New York to promote awareness, education, and acceptance of individuals with disabilities. Performances are provided to schools without charge as a public service.
No prior puppeteering/acting experience is necessary. Qualified applicants need to be energetic, enthusiastic, and dedicated to spreading the message that being different is a universal condition that should be celebrated. Hours are flexible but commitment to training and learning puppetry skills/scripts is a must. To prepare for the school year, the next training will be held on Monday, September 18 and Tuesday, September 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at People Inc.’s Employee Training Center, 976 Delaware Ave. in Buffalo. For more information or to register for the training, contact Brie Hofschneider, project coordinator, by email Bhofschneider@people-inc.org or at 817-7478 or 536-1803.
