People Inc.’s Themed Learning Club Accepts Participants

Williamsville, N.Y., September 5, 2007, Over 50 volunteers from schools, businesses, and other public sectors volunteered their time to Western New York’s leading Not-for-Profit Health and Human Service provider. Five People Inc. Senior Service programs throughout Western New York benefited from the United Way’s Day of Caring on Wednesday, August 15, 2007.
In South Buffalo at 2171 Seneca Street volunteers from Empire State Development and Trocaire College assisted seniors in sprucing up the area. Windows were washed and trash was picked-up all around the senior apartment complex on the corner of Seneca Street and Cazenovia Street. “The volunteer effort on this momentous day means so much to the seniors, their loved ones, and the staff of People Inc,” said Kevin Horrigan, Director of Public Affairs for People Inc. “This collaborative effort shows a community valuing its growing senior population and supports collaborative efforts of not-for-profits like People Inc, higher ed institutions like Trocaire College and a governmental agency like Empire State Development” said Horrigan.
In addition, four other areas: Buffalo, West Seneca, Blasdell, and Hamburg had projects underway at the same time at four different senior sites. People Inc.’s Seniors Unlimited Program at 310 Delaware, which is the only program of its kind in the city of Buffalo that provides respite for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and other related memory loss; had volunteers from AT&T cleaning graffiti, beautifying the shrubbery area, painting, and cleaning the area of trash. In West Seneca at 2336 Southwestern Boulevard a team of volunteers from Iroquois Central school district cleaned and performed gardening In Blasdell at 36 Arthur Avenue, volunteers from Target will work at cleaning the apartment complex on all three floors. A team in Hamburg at 4150 Sowles Road from Depew Public Schools assisted seniors in cleaning their windows.
People Inc. is a not-for-profit human service agency providing programs and services to at least 10,000 people with special needs, their families, and seniors throughout Western New York. Since 1971, People Inc. has assisted individuals to achieve greater degrees of independence and productivity.
