People Inc.’s Celebrates Tenth Affordable Senior Housing Complex
Former Elementary School Converted to Sunflower Senior Housing

Why:
People Inc. has been hard at work converting the former Franklin Elementary Street School near South Park Avenue and Our Lady of Victory Basilica into an affordable senior living community called Sunflower Housing. People Inc.’s award-winning apartments are for independent seniors, age 62 and up, who meet the federally mandated income guidelines. The building dates back to 1920 and was once used as an elementary school. Currently, Sunflower Housing includes 49 apartments retaining much of the building’s character while adding 21st Century amenities. Tours and information will be provided as there are apartments still available to rent.
People Inc.’s Sunflower Senior Housing provides safe, affordable housing for low-income senior citizens capable of independent living. The rental apartments consists of a single bedroom, kitchen, living/dining area, and a bathroom. Additionally, the building includes a Community Room with full kitchen and lounge area for social gatherings, caretaker’s apartment, new appliances in the tenant apartments, laundry facilities, full-time manager's office, and recreation activities. In addition to the Lackawanna facility, People Inc. operates senior housing complexes in Amherst, Blasdell, Cheektowaga, Grand Island, Hamburg, Orchard Park, South Buffalo, North Buffalo, and West Seneca.
People Inc. is a not-for-profit health and human services agency providing programs and services to more than 10,000 people with special needs, their families, and seniors throughout Western New York. Since 1971, People Inc. has assisted individuals to achieve greater degrees of independence and productivity.
