People Inc. receives Approval from the New York State Department of Health for the Child and Adult Care Food Program
Buffalo, N.Y., April 30, 2007: People Inc., Western New York’s leading human service agency, has been approved by the New York State Department of Health for the Child and Adult Care Food Program. The funds will benefit two of its agency’s programs, Respite at Hispanics United and Seniors Unlimited.
The children and adults served at these two programs will be offered meals at no separate charge, with no physical segregation of, or other discriminatory action. The Respite at Hispanics United program provides assistance with homework, arts and crafts, and community outings are scheduled on a routine basis. A meal is also provided daily. Transportation is offered on a limited basis and staff are proficient in Spanish. For more information about the Respite at Hispanics United program, call Admission at 880-3700. Seniors Unlimited provides respite for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and other related memory loss. In a safe, comfortable environment, participants are involved in a variety of activities designed to foster self-esteem, maintain social and daily living skills, exercise the body and stimulate the mind. Hot breakfast and lunch are served on a daily basis. Individuals with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, stroke, and other related memory loss are eligible. The New York State Department of Health annually receives funding from the federal government to support and further enhance New York's Child and Adult Care Food Program’s (CACFP) statewide. The CACFP initiative is supported through an entitlement program from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and continues New York’s commitment of promoting the health and well being of its residents. Currently, more than 1,500 sponsoring organizations representing 12,000 licensed or registered center-based or family day care sites are participating statewide. On average, day care providers serve approximately 267,000 meals to children and adults each day. In 2005, New York received nearly $151 million in federal USDA funds for this expanded nutrition program.
