People Inc. Nominates NYS Assemblyman Jim Hayes for Legislative Award

BUFFALO , N.Y. , April 12, 2006: People Inc. is pleased to announce the nominations of New York State Assemblyman Jim Hayes for The Developmental Disabilities Day Conference’s Legislative Award by CEO and President of People Inc. James Boles. Since 1998 Assemblyman Hayes has represented the 148 th District which encompasses The Towns of Amherst and Pendleton, a portion of North Tonawanda, and is home to People Inc.’s headquarters, and several administrative offices IRA’s and ICF’s.

Assemblyman Hayes’ holds the title of Minority Whip and serves in the top ranks of Assembly Minority Leadership. He has been a leader in campaigning for People Inc. as well as all of the Developmental Disability agencies in Western New York in support of trend increases and passing of OMRDD budget in the legislature. He also works closely within his community to accomplish many local projects.

Hayes has strongly advocated in support of People Inc.’s families, consumers and staff when there are development needs in his district. More specifically Hayes facilitated the creation of The Museum of disABILITY located on Main Street in Williamsville. Hayes fought for and gained support from colleagues and Governor Pataki to award $40,000 in the NYS budget 05-06 in order to create the museum which will collect and display artifacts pertaining to the history of people with disabilities. For this reason James Boles felt it appropriate that Jim Hayes be nominated for the Legislative Award.

People Inc. is a not-for-profit health and human services agency providing programs and services to at least 10,000 people with special needs, their families, and seniors throughout Western New York. Since 1971, People Inc. has assisted individuals to achieve greater degrees of independence and productivity.
