Museum of disABILITY History Appoints Education Coordinator

Buffalo, N.Y., March 19, 2007: The Museum of disABILITY History is pleased to announce that Elizabeth A. Marotta has been appointed to the position of Education Coordinator. A native of Gasport, Marotta has a B.A. in History from SUNY Buffalo and an MS in Education from Niagara University and is certified to teach elementary students. She was previously been employed by People Inc. and the Museum of disABILITY History as a Research Assistant during which time she researched and co-authored a publication on the Almshouses of Western New York. A registered merit badge counselor, she will continue her focus on the Museum of disABILITY History’s joint endeavor with the Boy Scouts of America by providing a program for boy scouts to earn their Disabilities Awareness Merit Badge in addition to providing educational programs on disability history and awareness programs to local schools and community groups and providing tours of the Museum’s exhibits.

The Educator Coordinator position has been funded in part by an Institutional Advancement grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. This grant support is available to aid small and emerging museums to move forward professionally through the addition of a staff member to support collections or education programs when such a position is not currently funded by the museum.

The Museum of disABILITY History is dedicated to advancing the understanding, acceptance, and independence of people with disabilities. The Museum’s exhibits, collections, archives, and educational programs preserve and document the history of people with disabling conditions and serve to create awareness and a platform for dialogue and discovery.
