People Inc.’s Themed Learning Club Accepts Participants

Buffalo, N.Y. February 8, 2006: Finding quality childcare is a dilemma that working families may be challenged with. For parents of children who have developmental disabilities, a unique challenge faces them during the middle school years. People Inc.’s Themed Learning Club can help address parent’s after-school care worries for their child who has a developmental disability at the time when their non-disabled peers no longer require after-school supervision.

The Themed Learning Club program offers a variety of after school activities. The program is open to middle and high school students who have a developmental disability, ages 12 to 21, from the Amherst School District, adjacent school districts, or any student who has transportation to the program.

Trained staff help participants improve their socialization skills, make new friends, and encourage them to have fun. Activities range from arts and crafts, sports and fitness, music and dancing, cooking, and planning celebrations. People Inc.’s Themed Learning Club is held at Amherst High School, 4301 Main St, in Amherst Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The program is funded through the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver and is offered at no cost to families who are eligible for the Waiver. For more information about People Inc.’s Themed Learning Club, call Terrie Cichon, program administrator, People Inc., at 817-9017.
