People Inc. CEO gets national nod

People Inc.'s CEO has been selected by President George Bush to sit on a national committee on disabilities.

James Boles , president and CEO at People Inc., will serve on the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID). He was nominated by Rep. Thomas Reynolds, R-Clarence.

The committee, formerly known as the President's Committee on Mental Retardation, is a federal advisory committee that advises the president and the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services on issues concerning individuals with intellectual disabilities. It also coordinates activities between different federal agencies and assesses the impact of their policies upon the lives people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

Boles, who has headed People Inc. since 1981, is one of 21 members and the only representative from New York state. He will travel this week to Washington, D.C., for the group's inaugural meeting.

People Inc., a nonprofit agency based in Amherst, provides health and human services to more than 10,000 people with special needs, their families and seniors throughout Western New York. With $75 million in revenues and over 2,300 employees, it is the largest health and human service agency in the eight-county region.
