• The New York Farm Bureau, the state's largest agricultural lobbying and trade organization, has named State Sen. George D. Maziarz, R-Newfane, to the organization's "Circle of Friends."
Membership is based upon each legislator's voting record on issues of importance to New York agriculture, including response to bills that the Farm Bureau has either supported or opposed, according to John Lincoln, New York Farm Bureau president.

• St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute recently appointed seven men to serve three-year terms on the school's board of trustees.

• Jill Johnston-Price, director of Fredonia State College's Animation and Illustration Degree Program, is the writer, director, producer and editor of "Prickle Britches," a six-minute animated short film that is being shown in juried film festivals throughout the world.
"Prickle Britches" is the tale of a young girl on a surreal fairy tale journey. It will be shown Wednesday through Sept. 24 at the Great Lakes Film Association Film Festival in Erie, Pa.
Johnston-Price, the maker of nine films, five of them animations, is a native of Thunder Bay, Ont.

• Jack J. Long, an attorney, has been elected for a second year to be president of Just Buffalo Literary Center, a cultural nonprofit organization based in the Market Arcade.
Matthew Collard of Snyder, a member of the Class of 1992, vice president and portfolio manager for Harold C. Brown & Co., LLC; Brother Daniel Gardner, principal at St. Raymond High School for Boys in the Bronx; Eugene Graves of Buffalo, a senior consultant for business systems at HSBC Bank USA in Buffalo; and Jody Lomeo of East Amherst, Class of 1986, a financial consultant and co-owner of Integrity Financial Group in Williamsville.
Also, BrotherAugustine Nicoletti, assistant professor of education at Manhattan College in Riverdale; William H. Mabee of Amherst, vice president and director of marketing and communications at M&T Bank; and Joseph A. Voelkl, Class of 1955, president and chief executive officer of Buffalo Pharmacies.

• President Bush has named James Boles, president and CEO of People Inc. in Amherst, to serve on the President's Committee for People With Intellectual Disabilities.
Boles, nominated by Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds, R-Clarence, to be one of 21 civilian members on the panel, which advises the president on issues concerning citizens with intellectual disabilities. He's the only member from New York State.
Boles has headed the not-for-profit People Inc. since 1981. The agency provides programs and services to more than 10,000 people, their families and senior citizens throughout Western New York.
