Albany Budget Briefing followed by Meetings with WNY Delegation

Representatives of the Developmental Disability Alliance of WNY (DDAWNY), a consortium of agencies providing services to the developmentally disabled, were in Albany earlier this month to learn more about this year's New York State budget. A budget briefing was hosted by the New York State Rehabilitation Association (NYSRA) in Empire State Plaza which was followed by meetings with elected officials throughout New York State. Members of DDAWNY met with members of the Western New York State Delegation.

"Obtaining information on the ins and outs on the budget is very important to us, our employees, but most importantly our consumers and their families," said Rhonda Frederick, COO, People Inc. "Change is in the air in Albany and we want to effectuate that change where we can," Frederick added.

During the next month the legislature will be working on the budget and the goal is to have it in place by April 1st. "We want our WNY elected reps in the senate and assembly to know that although we want them to support the budget, we want them to realize there is an ongoing need for services in WNY. Currently there are 800 people in WNY waiting to receive residential placement," said Kevin Horrigan, Director of Public Affairs, People Inc. "There is talk of reform in Albany and we think we can help be part of that reform especially when it comes to caring for those that are disabled and seniors," Horrigan concluded.
