Pedestrian Safety
- Children under 10 years of age should never walk or cross the street alone.
- Teach children to cross at corners, intersections or crosswalks. Look left, right and left again. If it's safe, cross and keep on looking as you cross. Be alert for vehicles making a right turn on red.
- Just because you can see the driver, the driver may not see you. Make certain you make eye contact with the driver and that the driver stops before crossing in front of a car.
- Take caution when crossing driveways.
- Walk, do not run across the street. Obey and recognize all traffic signals and markings.
- Always walk on sidewalks, face oncoming traffic and stay as far to the left as possible.
- Be extra careful in rain or snow. Allow extra time and distance for vehicles to stop. Do not let umbrellas or hoods block vision.
- Motorists are to yeild the right of way for pedestrians. Pedestrians should also be cautious of motorists.
